Bachelor of Theology - General Information

joyce-christine-1Philosophy of Bachelor of Arts in Theology

The subject and object of theology is God. One’s concept of God and one’s attitude toward Him are the determining factors in building both life and character. As a strong foundation is essential for a superstructure, Christian doctrine serves as the foundation for the development of an individual’s body, mind and spirit. These doctrinal truths are found in the incarnate and written Word of God revealed to us in divine revelation. There is an unbroken chain of continuity between what one believes in the here and now, the kind of person one will be, and one’s place of abode in the hereafter.

Personal salvation, sound character and holy influence are dependent on the acquisition of the correct tenets of faith. Every Christian is responsible, according to his/her capacity and opportunity, to discover and accept Christian doctrine. In studying the doctrinal truths of the Bible, one enters into companionship with some of the purest and best minds of the ages like St. Paul, St. Augustine, Thomas Aquinas, John Calvin, John Wesley and others.

The Goals of the Bachelor of Theology Degree

  • To lead students in a biblically-based, holistic development, e.g. spiritually, mentally, emotionally, socially, and physically.
  • To prepare students to minister in religious vocations, namely as pastors, missionaries, evangelists, and chaplains.
  • To promote evangelical doctrine and prepare students to understand a diversity of religious worldviews.
  • To challenge students to integrate Christian values and academics.
  • To develop competency necessary for graduate studies.

How to Achieve the Above Goals

  • Through chapel services, special conferences, personal devotions, daily evening prayers, Sunday evening services, weekly ministry assignments and physical education.
  • Through academic excellence and practical experience gained in related areas such as preaching and evangelistic practice, cross-cultural ministry, choir leading, and hospital and school chaplaincy.
  • Through lectures provided by lecturers with broad academic discipline.

Additional Requirements

The unique function of the BTh programme is to equip students for leadership and service within the Christian church. Emphasis is placed upon spiritual qualities essential for effective preparation and appropriation of educational and experiential skills. While sympathetic to the diversity of interpretations within Christian doctrinal persuasions, KHEU is committed to the Wesleyan theological perspective that encourages interaction with other views. Students seeking enrolment in the BTh programme are expected to adhere to an evangelical confession of Christian faith.

Additional BTh Admissions Requirements

  • An applicant must be a regular attendee of a local fellowship of Christians.
  • An applicant must desire to grow in understanding of biblical and theological subjects and acquire practical skills so as to be able to address the needs of the church and society with the authority of Christian truth.
